Three weeks ago I was contacted by journalist Alex Mullarky asking me if I was interested in doing an interview for the Horses & People magazine about my Crin jewellery work. She also said she wanted me to do a pair of earrings for her wedding using Rouk's (her horse) hair and invited me to meet the animal. We met last Saturday for the interview and on Sunday I traveled to Lofty Park a beautiful horse farm located at 27kms from Melbourne CBD to meet Rouk, Alex and her fiance Lachlan.
Rouk is a seven year old thouroughbred born in Juddmonte Farms, a racing horse breeding organization in the UK. His name was Picture Editor and his parents were quite well known breeding horses.
Rouk started racing in the UK when he was very young and then bought and brought to Australia where he raced until mid 2014. He retired due to a injury in his right leg.
Alex and Lachlan adopted Rouk last year and they have been taking care of him with great love and dedication. They gave Rouk a new home in the beautiful Lofty Park where he slowly recovered from injures.
A beautiful coincidence in this story is that Alex is originally from the UK same as Rouk and they found each other here in Australia. This fact makes Alex feel a profound connection with Rouk's life and her own life story. I was lucky to have witnessed the loving relationship between Alex and Rouk by seeing the way they interact and how the horse obediently follow Alex's caring instructions. I think destiny put them together for a reason.
